Brenna is Here!!! If you didn't follow my play-by-play on Facebook then here's what happened. Enjoy ;)

I went in for my 37w check up on June 9th. At the appt. the Dr. told me I was 3-4cm and gave me the list of things that I should watch for before going into L&D. She also said I wouldn't go much longer, and if I had a reason to go in I should. I totally started to panic and called my BFF to make an emergency Target run with me that night to pick up what I didn't have yet .

I started having regular contractions, 3-7 min apart, at 1am. I timed them for an hour, and they magically stopped at 2am. I decided that I would rest at home on Wednesday and DH and I would go in on Thursday.

I woke up on Wednesday morning with painful, but irregular cntx. (They felt like RLP or ovulation pain) so I decided we should probably go in that morning. We went in around 7am and they checked me, still 3-4cm. I was contracting, but not regularly, so they left me on the monitor for a while. After about 2 hours they checked me again and I was a "stretchy" 4. Because I was progressing they didn't want to release me, but because I was only 37 weeks they wouldn't induce me. So, they told me to walk around for an hour and they would check me again. DH and I walked in circles around L&D from 10:30-11:30. I was now 4-5cm.

They told me that they would have an answer on what they were going to do with me at 2:30.
At 3pm I was a solid 5cm and they admitted me for observation and were going to keep me overnight to see what progress I made by morning.

They were checking me and I was slowly progressing, but they would not break my water because I was only 37w, and because my contractions were inconsistant.

By 6am I was a solid 6cm and given the green light for an H2O break if I didn't go on my own by noon. I walked some more and they tried to break my water at 12:30. Because I was 90% effaced and -1 station Brenna was blocking the water from really breaking, so at 2pm they had to break it again. They gave me pitocin because my cntx actually slowed down after they broke my water, and I had my epi at the same time.

I was fully dialated by 3:50 and pushed for maybe 15 minutes. Brenna was born at 4:11 on June 11th.

Because she was born so quickly there wasn't time for my epi to take completely, so I couldn't feel the contractions, but I could feel her being born. She had a lot of "gunk" in her chest, and her blood sugar was a little low so they wisked her away to the special care nursery. I only go to hold her for a quick minute and they took her away. They came and told me that the quickest way to get her blood sugar up was to give her formula, but since I did not want her to have a bottle, I asked them to give it to her with a feeding tube. They did and her sugar worked itself out. While she was in the nursery, she had a "dusky" episode (turned blue while bathing) so they kept her even longer for monitoring. They suctioned her, took chest x-rays, and O2 readings. Eventually they brought her to me and she was nice and clean and pink. She nursed like a champ!!!

Then I had problems...After Brenna was born I was fine so they took out my IV and Epi. About 2 hours later I passed 2 very large clots. Bill called the nurses and since I was feeling dizzy a flock of them where in my room before he put the call button down. They got me to bed and I had a few more clots, but it seemed to slow down. Bill left to be home with the big kids and my mom came to stay at the hospital. At about 9:30pm I was having major cramping and lots of clots. They ended up giving me a shot of Methergine to stop the clotting and they had to redo my IV to give me a bolus of Pitocin to make me contract. Everything worked itself out, and the staff was great, but I was really scared there for a little while.

The next morning the pediatrician came in to check out Brenna and it was discovered that she had a heart murmur. They called in a cardiologist from Childrens and after an EKG and Echo they found that Brenna has a tiny hole between her right and left atrium and minor narrowing of her pulmonary artery. The cardiologist was AMAZING, and very thorough in her information. Both defects are minor, and if it had just been one or the other it wouldn't be as big an issue. Since it is both we will have to be monitored by the cardiologist. Our first visit is June 24th, and at that time they will determine how much monitoring is needed.

Other than that, she is the perfect baby. Once my milk came in she nursed like a champ, and we are able to nurse laying down, so I'm getting rest. She sleeps when she's not eating, and if she is awake she is just looking all around peacefully. I can't stop kissing her, and now that she's here, I don't know what I'd do without her!!!
