Wow! 2009...where has the time gone? When 2008 started things were headed in a totally different direction. However, things change and we just have to change with them. Like the saying goes, 'If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change the way you look at it'. I am optimistic that 2009 will be a year to look upon with new eyes. To look at the things that didn't work out for us in 2008 not as failures or mistakes but as experiences to learn from and grow as a family.

Although it seems I have been a total slacker mom this year with the journal entries, I can assure you that Kassidy and Liam are 2 incredible children.

I am amazed daily at the amount of love Kassidy has in her heart, not only for her little brother, but for all things in the world. She is very artistic and creative. She will spend hours, HOURS, playing with the figures in our nativity under the Christmas tree. She will create intricate stories while she draws and colors. She loves to sing and build things. She is also stubborn, bull headed, and feisty. She is easily manipulated by her brother when she doesn't do exactly what he wants and he cries. She is doing very well in school, has no problem making friends, and now has no problems writing her name (a huge hurdle at the end of last year/ beginning of this year). She knows all letters and is beginning to recognize site words, can count to 100 with assistance at the "10"s, ie: 30, 40, 50..., and is a whiz at computer games on Mommy approved sites. She is growing and maturing at a rate I didn't think was humanly possible, and it makes me happy and sad to know that she will 5-years-old in 7 short months.

The energy, knowledge, love, and spirit that is encapsulated in a 33.5 inch, 25 lb little boy boggles the mind. How can something so tiny and delicate be all the things that Liam is?? When people told me a boy would be different, I thought, "Oh sure." They were right. Liam is very independent. He must do everything himself or at least attempt it. He usually will ask for help if he can't do something, but he MUST try first. Liam loves music and to dance. He loves to be read to, but also to go through books we read regularly and read them himself. He can draw an amazing circle, and has started drawing faces just in the last few weeks. He loves his big sister, and calls her "Tiggy". He wants to be where she is and doing what she is doing. He loves to climb and jump off of everything that stands still long enough for him to shimmy up. He loves to be chased, tickled, and kissed. He loves to sing, and will often surprise me with the songs he knows most words to, ie: Puff the Magic Dragon. He knows his basic colors and shapes. He can hold a pencil correctly, and asks for help writing his name. He loves to look at his baby photo album and point out his picture on every page. He is much more clingy than Kassidy. After his nap he will usually spend another 30-45 minutes being snuggled on the couch. He must know where I am at all times, and usually wants to be there as well. He loves his Daddy! He wants to be where he is too, and asks daily if he can go to work with him. He loves games even though he can't play most of them. He's showing "potty readiness" signs, and that new adventure will be starting very soon. Liam is sweeter than I could have hoped for. His hugs are magic and his smile is infectious. His huge eyes and belly laugh could melt even the coldest heart. He went from baby to toddler to almost-preschooler in nearly a single bound. How is it possible that in September of this new year he will be going off to preschool when his big sister heads to kindergarten??

If you keep up with us, you know 2009 will be bringing a new face to the Kelly family. I have high hopes that the new baby will be just as diverse and wonderful as his/her big sister and brother. It will be another adventure and experience that I didn't plan on taking, but I know that it will be just as amazing and fulfilling as my past 4 1/2 years. I don't doubt that on January 1, 2012 I'll be saying how I can't believe my baby is going to be 3-years-old and going to preschool in September.

We probably aren't going to win mother/father of the year. We might not do things the way others do them, or how they think we should do them. But we do what feels right, and we are so proud to have 2 wonderful kids who are polite, creative, fun, funny, healthy, happy, caring, and smart. We love them with more of ourselves than we knew we had, and they love us right back! We are very lucky to have each other.

Happy, Healthy 2009 to everyone! Best wishes for the best year ever!!

Thank you for stopping by. Be Well, All!
