Tomorrow is Kassidy's 3rd day of school, and let me tell you...she can't wait! The video, although cut off when she gets to the classroom door, pretty accurately depicts her continuing enthusiasm once she entered the room last Tuesday. She quickly set to playing with various items, and talking to the other kids. When Emma arrived she announced, loudly, "Everyone, Emma's here!” When the teacher told another child, "Tell Mommy and Daddy goodbye", Kassidy shouted from somewhere, "Bye Guys!" She barely bat and eyelash. When we got there in the afternoon to pick her up, she and the other 13 kids in her class were seated quietly around 4 small, round tables. They had been instructed to wait for their parents to come to them, and amazingly, in 3 short hours, the teachers got them to do it!!! Not one kid moved when the parents walked in. Shocking, I know.
Thursday, Day 2, not so smooth. Bill will be taking Kass in the mornings. This was their first day. First Kass didn't want to get dressed and threw a fit when I was trying to get her shorts on. Then she threw a fit because I wasn't going with her and Daddy. Then, I'm told, she threw a fit when Daddy left. And, she threw a fit when I went to take her home because she didn't want to leave. Ahhhhhh, the Thrashing Threes!! Emma also had a meltdown because "Eli stole my friend, Kassidy!" Eli is the poor kid they sat in between Kass and Emma. There is talk of moving one of the girls to the other table. I'm just glad there are trained professionals handling that separation, as I fear it would be easier to split an atom.
Tomorrow should be better...right?? I have high hopes that tomorrow will be easier, and it will get progressively smoother as the school year goes on. Then just when it's a well oiled machine...Summer Break...Gah!!
I also had my first realization on Thursday that Kassidy is beginning to have a life separate from me, and there are things she will know that I do not. Thursday was picnic day, and all of the kids were to bring a blanket to sit on. Kassidy took an old pink thermal one that she's had since forever. Later in the afternoon, while we were watching "her show", I asked her what color Emma's blanket was. Kass replies, "Green with penguins on it." At this moment I realize that I do not know what this blanket looks like. There has never been a situation like this before. Kassidy knows what the blanket looks like, and if shown three green/penguin blankets she could pick it out and I could not. Wow, now that is something!!Comments:Add a comment:
