Krazy Kelly Kids

So, let me just tell you that Kassidy has become an avid sign-baby. She picks up new signs with little or no trouble at all, and they don't all come from me. Shall I explain..okay, I shall.

I recently thought it was a good idea to use the sign for "Cookie". You'd know this if you read the last entry. She now uses it daily, not only to ask for one, but when she sees one in a book or at the grocery. Okay, so she knows "Cookie" no big deal...

The other day, we're getting ready for dinner, and she's watching one of the recorded "Blue's Clues" while we are getting the table set. Bill goes and turns it off, and brings Kassidy to the table. She takes a few bites, and signs what I think is "All Done" (open hands rotating by ears). I say no, we just started, she has a few more bites, and does it again...then I realize...this kid isn't signing "All Done" she's signing "Blue's Clues"(Hands opening and closing by ears). So I say, Blue's Clues? And she nods her head yes, and signs "More Please"!!! Uh-oh....Now she's requesting programs...I've created a monster!!! Now just about every morning when we come downstairs she stands in the livingroom and signs "Blue's Clues" "Please". Today at lunch she did it, and I said and signed "Eat First" "Blue's Clues Second" and she did the "Eat" sign back and held up one finger. And she was fine with eating, but when she was done she was "Blue's Clues"ing up a storm. I let her watch one...I like them too.

Now that my child is a "BC" junkie, she has also picked up some other things from it. For instance, we were out to dinner tonight, and Kassidy tends to put her chin on her fists, like she's thinking. So I say "Are you thinking?" and I sign "Thinking" she looks at me, purses her lips, taps them with her finger and says "Hmmmm" I'm not even kidding. Only my baby.

In other news, we've added "Mooo" to our short list of Animal noises. "Kassidy, what's a Cow say?" "Oooooo" and she leans way back when she says it. Where does she come up with this stuff??!!!?? I love that kid, she cracks me up!

It's the little things that really make having a kid fun. Here are some of the latest "Cuties" from Miss Kassidy:

    1) After about 8 months of reading "Goodnight Moon" she will now point to the mouse when asked "Where's the mouse?" on the "Two little kittens, a pair of mittens; a little toy house and a young mouse" page. Woo hoo. She also knocks on the "Little toy house"

    2) When you say "Where's Kassidy" she puts her hands over her eyes, then very enthusiastically throws her arms open with "jazz hands" and smiles her big cheesy grin. Some times she even says "Boo"

    3) If you ask her if she's cold she says, "Brrrr" and shakes her body

    4) If you tell her to go to sleep she makes snoring sounds

    5) If I say "I love you" she gives me kisses

    6) She now knows the sign for "Cookie" and uses it frequently...she is also learning that she doesn't always get what she asks for!!

    7) She has started using the "More" sign for things other than food. Her latest fun thing is to lay on the kitchen floor and we spin her around, or drag her around by her ankles. When we stop she'll then sign "More" "Please". We usually oblige

    8) She can offically find her own nose, mouth, eyes, ears (always both, never just one) and hair.

    9) If she hears a sneeze, she says "Ahhhh Chooooooo"

Is this girl the cutest freakin' kid in the world or what??!!??

My poor little baby had her first surgical procedure yesterday!!!

A few months ago I discovered, accidentally, what appeared to be a pimple on the inside of Kassidy's bottom eyelid. I freaked out and took her straight into the Dr. They told me that they had never seen one so big on the inside that you could see from the outside of her eye. So they sent us to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist. He prescribed some ointment, and we went back for repeated re-checks. At our last visit he said it appeared that the original cyst was beginning to scar over, and the best course of action was to remove it. YIKES!!

So, we go in yesterday morning. You had to be there 2 hours pre-op, so we had to be at Children's Medical at 6:50am. No Fun!! So no biggy, except that Kassidy hadn't had anything to eat or drink for 12+ hours. Luckily, our room had a TV with Disney, so thank goodness for that.

After the usual paper work they came in and gave Kass a dropper full of Tylenol that was laced with some "Valium" (not really, but just like it)to relax her when someone other than Mommy had to take her to the O.R. Now, this stuff is supposed to knock kids out...Most Kids...Not Mine! This girl looked like that really drunk guy at a wedding that still wanders around and talks to everyone, but has NO business walking. She would try to get up and walk but she had jell-o legs, and that made her mad. One of the nurses came in before they took her, and Kassidy was crawling all over the bed. The nurse is like, "She had her medicine, Right?" Oh, yes, ma'am, she sure has. But you'll need an elephant tranquilizer to stop this girl!

Originally, Kassidy was to have one Chalazion (that's the official name) removed from her right eye, and they said she probably wouldn't need an IV. So they came and go her, she went without to much of a fight, and we were left to wait. They took her at about 8:45, and the Dr. came in at 8:56 and said, "We're all done." Now that is service. He did let us know that there was more than one chalazion further under her eye, and he removed those as well. He warned us that there would be some left over blood since he had to cut, and that her eye would be swollen.

We waited for about half an hour while Kassidy was in recovery. The little girl across the hall came back from her procedure and she seemed to be doing really well, then another baby came back. She was good too. Then we heard the Howl!! When Kassidy woke up she was freaking out. They had neglected to let us know that this was pretty normal when kids come out of the anesthesia. They carried her in the room, and she looked like she had just gotten into a pretty serious bar fight(I told Bill we should make her a shirt that said, "You Should See the Other Guy") and she was hooked up to an IV. That was more of a surprise than the eye. They explained that due to the additional chalazions she was given a more potent pain medication through the IV.

They brought a cool washcloth so I could blot her eye and the poor thing was so thirsty she tried to suck the washcloth!! So they finally gave Bruiser some Apple Juice and she got pissed because she can't hold it due to the IV, and Miss Independence reluctantly lets me hold it so she could finally get a drink. Then she proceeded to wail & flail when the cup was empty. They gave her a little more, and she stayed pretty mad the remainder of the stay. About an hour later she was given the OK to leave and as soon as she was back in her own pajamas and outside the room she her same old self. Talking to the other kids that were leaving, waving goodbye to the nurses...She is crazy!

Today she's pretty much back to normal, except for a beautiful 2.5 hour nap this afternoon. I'm hoping that will last...but I doubt it. She has minimal bruising and puffiness. She goes back in 3 weeks for a post-surgery check. We'll let you know if anything changes, but she's lookin' good!!

    Take Care!!!

I'm pretty sure Kassidy has graduated to the island of Toddlerhood. I say island, because it is a secluded place where no one really wants to be for long!! One day, my lovely little baby went to bed, and the next day, I've got a headstrong diva on my hands. Ug! Don't get me wrong, she is fun, and funny, and happy. We dance every morning to the radio after breakfast, and have a general good time. However, when something doesn't go the way she wishes, out comes the little curl!!

    The Nursery Rhyme goes:
There was a littl girl who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead. And when she was good she was very, very good, and when she was bad she was wicked!!

Yeah, that's the one. She has taken to throwing things that don't do what she wants, like the square shape that just won't go in the circle hole of the shape sorter, or her empty juice cup, or the Mega Blocks that won't go together! She's also started saying "No", which sounds like "New", but when accompanied with running away and arm flailing, we know it's NO!

Luckily, we haven't had any full blown tantrum yet, but here's what we do get. Put you arms out your sides. Go ahead, no one's watching. Bend at the elbow. Now turn your whole torso right, then left (repeat)really fast, flail your hands, shake your head, and say "New New New" That's what Kassidy has started to do when asked just about anything. HOW FUN!!!!!!!!!! If she's not in her high chair when she does the "No Dance" she usually runs away, too! Thank the heavens that it hasn't started when we ask her if she's ready for bed. That's still an almost automatic response of going to the bottom of the steps. Whew!!

She can't stay this way forever...RIGHT!!??!!

Had my 13 week check-up today. Everything is swell, and I still haven't gained any weight. Not that I'm complaining. I know it's on the horizon. Deuce kept running away from the heartbeat doppler today, buy s/he has a strong rate of 158/minute. Wives tales tell us that the heartrate can predict the sex. Higher=Girl, Lower=Boy. Kassidy's was 156 at this point in the pregnancy, so I'm wagering that the Kelly Household will continue to be ruled by the Pink Team!!! Hopefully we'll know for sure mid January.

Here is what Duece will have done by the end of this week:
Your baby measures about 3.2 to 3.5 inches (7.6 to 8.9cm) from crown to rump and weighs about 0.9 ounces (25g). Your baby is now nourished by the placenta.

His face is developing and his cheeks and the bridge of his nose are appearing. His ears are moving from the sides of his neck to higher on his head and his eyes are moving closer together. Your baby's external genitals are now distinct and may be recognized on an ultrasound. Your baby will move away from stimuli near your tummy, such as noise and light.

Your baby's eyebrows have formed and a small amount of hair, called lanugo, has appeared all over his body. Lanugo, which will be shed before birth and replaced with the hairs with which your baby will be born, is thought to have a protective function.

Insulin is present in your baby's pancreas. Some bones may be well outlined. Your baby's thyroid gland, already developed by this week, begins to make hormones.

Baby boys begin to develop the prostate gland at this time and the ovaries of baby girls descend from the abdomen into the pelvis.

So, okay, I'm totally late with Kassidy's 16 month picture, but what can I say...it's there now, so look all you want!

I have to say that Family Christmas pictures with a busy, mobile, active, inquisitive 16 month old are just no fun! Sears took way to long to get us into our sitting, and by the time we actually got in front of the camera, Kassidy was past her prime. Thankfully we got one or two pictures that will do for this year. Maybe next year will be easier because she'll be almost 2 1/2. Who knows, maybe it won't. Maybe she'll be one of those kids that doesn't smile. Ug!!

I've been feeling more and more normal. I forget almost daily that I am pregnant again. I guess that's a good thing. I go back to the Dr. for my monthly check-up on Tuesday. For those that have asked, we do not know if Deuce is a girl or boy yet. We won't find that out until our next ultrasound, which should be around the middle of January. I've been saying "He" alot more, but I don't have any "intuition" about it like I did with Kassidy. We'll have to wait and see.
