We are now beginning Deuces 12th week. Here is what Deuce will have accomplished by the end of this week!!
The end of the twelfth week of pregnancy marks the end of the first trimester. Your baby is now almost 2.5 inches long (6.1cm) when measured from crown to rump, and weighs between 0.3 and 0.5 ounces (9 to 13g).
Your baby's fingers and toes have separated and are getting longer. Your baby can open and close its mouth and drinks amniotic fluid which it passes out as urine. Its head is becoming more rounded, though it is still large in proportion to its body. It has eyelids.
You can now hear your baby's heartbeat with a Doppler Ultrasound device!
Your baby continues to grow rapidly and has doubled in size in the last three weeks alone.
The face is beginning to look more human, and all body structures are present with a few refinements still in progress. Fingernails and toenails begin to develop this week.
Your baby's muscles are sufficiently developed to allow for involuntary movements at this time. The messages which control your baby's movements are sent from the spine, rather than the brain, which is not yet sufficiently developed.Comments:Add a comment:

Hear Ye!! Hear Ye!! We are officially announcing, after a very positive ultrasound today, that we will be welcoming the newest Baby Kelly home sometime in Late May or Early June. Everything is going great, and we are now nearly 11 weeks along. We are calling this baby "Deuce" because it is the second one, not because we hope for it to become a Gigalo in the future!!!
Here is what Deuce is up to now (per Fertilityfriend.com):
Your baby is growing incredibly rapidly right now. She is approximately 1.75 to 2.4 inches (4.4 to 6cm) when measured from crown to rump. She will double her length in the next three weeks. Your growing baby weighs about 0.3 ounces (8g).
The neck is developing and the chin lifts up from the chest. Fingernails are also present. While your baby's sex was already determined at the time of fertilization, male or female genitalia are now visible. Essential organs are formed and most have begun to function. The blood vessels in the placenta are increasing in number to meet your baby's increasing nutritional needs. Her ears are moving towards the sides of her head, away from the neck. Your baby's head is still not in proportion with her body. Your baby's head accounts for about half of her body length.

You wanna know why I have the smartest kid on the planet??? You know you do, so I won't keep you in suspense any longer!
Kassidy and I went to lunch with our friends Erin, Melynn (pronounced Mah-lynn), and Allie Duff yesterday. I ordered Kassidy the grilled cheese and a fruit salad, instead of fries. When the food came, the fruit salad had apples in it.
Now, let us rewind about a month and a half. I was eating an apple while Kass was eating her lunch, and I showed her the sign for apple. On one isolated occasion I showed this child the sign for APPLE.
Anyway, so the salad has apples, and oranges and pineapples and some grapes. I give her an apple chunk and say, "Apple". THE KID SIGNED APPLE TO ME!!!!!!!! I'm not even kidding. I couldn't believe it either. She is brilliant!
Here is my VERY far fetched reasoning behind why she could have possibly done this. I have a book from when I was little of Sesame Street ABC signs. On the "Aa" page, Linda Bove, the hearing impaired lady from Sesame shows the signs for "A", Airplane, Alligator, and Apple. Now, Kassidy has really been loving this book lately, and glances through it almost every day, but I've never gone through it with her. Again, my Far Far Far out reason for thinking that she knows the sign for "Apple" is that she knows what the word looks like from her Baby Einstein Videos, saw the picture of the sign with the word under it, and her cognitive thinking kicked in. Crazy right?? I know, but that's all I can think of.
How does one handle being the mother of a genius??? I'll have to let you know.

WHY is it that when we go to the Dr. this child isn't doing anything on the list, and 5 days later, she's an old Pro!!??!! Not that I'm complaining. I'm very proud to be the mother of a genius. Do you have a second? Let me tell you all about it.
As we all know, Kassidy wasn't quite "Up to Speed" at last weeks Doctor's Appointment. If you don't know what I'm talking about, kindly refer to the last entry of October 2005. Anyway, we were up stairs for a diaper change, and Casey (the dog) came into Kassidy's room. She's been saying "Ga-daw" when she sees her. Kassidy, not the dog. So, she says it, and I say, "Kassidy, what does the doggy say," and she says, "Rrrfff". So'm I'm like, yeah, okay, good job kid, but are you gonna keep doing it, or what. So we go downstairs, and I say ask her again, and again she replies "Rrrffff"!!!!!! So excited, I can't wait for Bill to get home. He finally arrives, and we start a "grown-up" conversation, and I'm like "Wait, you have to hear this!" Kassidy is in the kitchen with us, and I ask her what a doggy says. "Rrrfff" she replies, and we both look like 2 proud peacocks! But wait, there's more...
After dinner(ps.Shake and Bake Rocks!!!) Kassidy and I were sitting on the floor amongst the clutter looking at a picture book. When we were done, I asked her to get her "Belly Button" book. One of the new body part books to help her grasp anatomical location. So, okay, I say get your "Belly Button" book, which I can see under a pile of other "stuff". Now, this is a new book, just got it on Saturday, and I this is the first time I've actually called it the "Belly Button" book. There are about 11 other books in the vicinity. Would you believe that the kid walked right over and pulled the "Belly Button" book out from the rubble??? BELIEVE IT, because she did!!!!!!! "You've got to be kidding me," I say to Bill. Amazing the things you get crazy excited about when you have kids.
To finish out our pretty eventful Cognitive Thought day, I was laying on the couch before "Wheel of Fortune", and Kassidy walked over. I said where is Mummy's nose, and she poke me right in the sniffer!!! YAY!!!!!!!!Comments:Add a comment:
