Thrilling jubilation comes in small milestones these days!! Kassidy had her 15 month check up today, and when the Dr. started in on the list of things she should be doing I was horrified that I didn't have a list of check-marks. We aren't climbing, pulling our shoes off, pulling our socks off, or pointing to body parts. Ug I'm a terrible parent for not coaching my child through her anatomy and allowing her to run amuck while pulling of various pieces of clothing!! She did say that signing counts as words, so we're at like 10 words when there should only be 4 she's using. CHECK! I'm venturing out tomorrow to find a baby body parts book.
But not to worry. The Dr. wasn't too concerned; she was just going off the basic list of baby milestones. Height and weight were good. 2 shots, took 'em like a champ.
So, feeling totally deflated by Kassidy lack of accomplishments, we came home to finish her normal day. While sitting on the couch watching a tivo'd show I glanced over to see what Kassidy was up to. She was inside her cube putting blocks and other toys on the platform. A few minutes later, she started to push the toys down the slide. I watched her like I usually do, but she didn't know I was watching. When she pushed the last block down the slid she clapped!!! For herself!!! Now, for those of you who don't think this is a big deal, you're wrong. Kassidy understood that she had completed her task, and she was congratulating herself with our "Yay" clap.
It doesn't stop there. I kept looking back over at her every few minutes. She had put a few more wooden blocks on the platform and was just sliding them around. The next time I looked they were in a STACK!!!! Kassidy stacked blocks today!!! Three of them. *Happy Dance* *Happy Dance*
There is nothing like the pure joy I felt when I looked over and saw that my baby had stacked up 3 blocks on her own, and that she knew what a job well done was and gave herself a round of applause. To heck with the checklists!!! Kassidy is a Genius!!!Comments:Add a comment:
